What is BYOT (Bring Your Own Telephony)?

BYOT, bring your own telephony, means connecting your existing carrier or SIP trunk to a voice AI platform instead of buying phone minutes from the platform, so you keep your numbers, rates and carrier relationships.

Also known as: bring your own carrier, BYOC, bring your own telephony

How it works

You keep your phone numbers and carrier contract. The voice AI platform connects to your carrier over SIP, so calls flow to and from the agent while billing for the call itself stays with your carrier. The platform bills only for its AI usage.

When it makes sense

BYOT helps when you already have negotiated carrier rates, numbers customers know, or regional carriers with better local coverage. It is also useful for compliance, for example when a registered calling number or a specific number series must remain the one customers see.

Common mistake

Assuming BYOT is always cheaper. You take on carrier management, number porting and troubleshooting across two vendors. For a small team making modest volumes, bundled telephony is often simpler and the saving small. Compare the all-in cost at your actual minutes.
